Every day, at least 5,000 barrels — that’s 210,000 gallons — of oil are estimated to be leaking from BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil platform 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana, causing severe damage to wildlife and fish populations, and to the many communities that depend on healthy fisheries and tourism in the Gulf of Mexico.
