The acclaimed film The Cove won an Oscar in the Documentary Feature category last night during the 82nd Academy Awards. It is the first film from the Oceanic Preservation Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using photography and film to inspire change to help preserve the world’s oceans. The Cove tells a heart-wrenching tale of the dolphin capture process. In the film, renowned photographer Louie Psihoyos leads a team into a secret cove in Japan using an array of gadgetry, spy and thermal cameras and unmanned drones to uncover the atrocities committed against dolphins there.
